A page and its terms in one file

Capture a checkout page together with the terms it links to, each with its own address and the time, in one PDF or a ZIP of files.

A checkout page shows a price and links to its terms, and either can read differently the next day. To keep what both said on the day, capture them together. There is no separate mode for it: it is the tabs scan, the stamp and the integrity record, in that order.

  1. Open the linked pages in tabs. On the checkout page, Cmd-click (Ctrl-click on Windows and Linux) each link you want kept: the terms, the refund or cancellation policy, the shipping page.
  2. Select the tabs. Click the checkout page's tab, then Cmd/Ctrl-click each of the others, or Shift-click to take a run of them. Two to ten tabs, from one window.
  3. Keep the pages as they were shown. If Clean up before capture has anything ticked, untick it, so no banner or overlay is taken out of the file.
  4. Scan. Open Page Scanner from the toolbar and press Scan 3 tabs (the count is how many you selected). Each tab is captured in turn into one capture, in tab order, under a band with its title.
  5. Stamp each page. In the Stamp & Brand panel, turn the stamp on with Date and time, or ISO 8601 for UTC. In a PDF each tab's pages carry that tab's own address, as a link.
  6. Write a record beside it. In the Integrity panel choose A record beside the file, then Extract.

The PDF has a bookmark for each tab, so the terms are one click from the price. Beside it, <name>.integrity.json holds the file's SHA-256 and when it was captured and exported, and checks the file later:

npx @page-scanner/cli verify checkout.pdf

For a file per page instead of one document, choose A file per tab, in a ZIP under Tabs in the Output Format panel. Each tab becomes its own file with its Markdown beside it, with an index and a SHA256SUMS file covering every file in the ZIP; the integrity record is not written for a ZIP, because those digests take its place.

What it does not do

  • It does not open the links for you. Page Scanner captures the tabs you select and no other page, so the terms are in the file only if their tab was selected.
  • The time is your computer's clock. The stamp and the record say when this computer captured the pages, not a time anyone else vouches for.
  • The record is narrow. It says that a file is byte for byte the one you exported, and nothing about what the site showed anyone else. It is a label kept with the file, not proof of anything.

A page behind a sign-in is captured as you see it, since the scan runs in your own Chrome. The export guide has every option the panels offer.
